I've previously waxed lyrical about the Strava phone app. I don't use it very often now I have the Garmin 910XT GPS watch. I simply upload the workouts from my watch when I get home. It's not that I didn't like the app I just find a watch more convenient than a phone to carry around. So this review is more about the website.
As with everything Strava the user interface is very uncluttered and user friendly. There are no display advertising apart from the sponsored challenges. The fun thing about Strava is you can easily and clearly see from the news feed what your friends are up to. The challenges are definitely just that (50K run in one weekend etc.) and the app makes no excuses targeting more hardcore athletes. They also sponsor pro cyclists to upload on the platform for you to follow.
The Segments idea is brillant. Basically, users create a segment, which is a certain course mapped out and defined by a user. Each time you ride over one (often unknowingly) you are ranked against all the others that have ridden or run over that particular segment.
They began in cycling but I predict they will quickly start capturing the running crowd as well. I'll be interested to see how the challenges develop but as far as the user interface and usability goes it's already an A+ for me.
